Castle Parade Underground Station Ewell (Northern Line) was built alongside large developments in Ewell – as the burgeoning social housing areas of Morden started to expand. This is just down from Ewell Caste – where Oliver Reed went to school.
Families re-housed in Ewell in the late 1920’s – early 1930’s were promised the underground link – so that commuting to London was easy. Plans to build the Morden to Ewell extension line were abandoned due to WWII. The ‘new’ residents had to make do with buses like the Route 93.
Inevitably, Ewell residents complained of isolation and feeling ‘cut off’. It was particularly grim for teenagers living in the area.
The station building is opposite The Organ and Dragon Inn.
