Vance Arnold I’ll Cry Instead

Vance Arnold had an amazing voice. The most gritty voice anyone had ever heard.  Everyone ‘up North’ knew that he was a very impressive talent.

In 1964 Vance Arnold signed with Decca and recorded the Lennon-penned number “I’ll Cry Instead.” The song was later heard on the soundtrack to ‘A Hard Day’s Night’.

The Leander arrangement of “I’ll Cry Instead” was one of the first session-jobs that guitarist Jimmy Page was offered.

Page played guitar on the recording, along with another session guitarist called ‘Big’ Jim Sullivan.
